Bettercup x Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival

We were lucky enough to be invited to Darwin to bring cups for the Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival last weekend, and it was one the most fun experiences we have had with bettercup!

The layout of the festival is several bars, stages and many market stalls of food, clothing and other little gatherings along 2km of the Nightcliff foreshore, which you are free to traverse as you like on foot, scooter, bike or roller skate to take in the sights, sounds and flavours of Darwin in the perfect autumn warmth (30 degree days, 20 degree nights) along the seaside with a very friendly bunch of people from all walks of life.

We were pleasantly surprised at the community’s interest and dedication to sustainable practices; along with the reusable cup system they also had the Waste Wise Seabreeze initiatives including their bin stations for separating waste and collecting compost, and no straws or other single use plastics in sight.

The music included some amazing acts from NT and around Australia, focussed on hip hop, Australiana, rock and World music, as well as local school choirs and orchestras. We personally loved VanderAa band at the World stage, with incredible live didgeridoos flowing through their relaxed sound.

There was a separate stage for dance, which involved people from the ages of about 3 to 75, doing every conceivable style of dance from hip hop to line dancing to drag (shout out to Drag Territory and Express Studios who brought incredible energy to the stage!)

The food ranged from Congalese to pizza cones to crepes to Thai and everything in between. We loved the portugese tarts made by Flavours of Portugal and had to strongly resist standing around the stall all night eating tarts.

The cheekily named RDO and 4:21 (a reference to the knock off time of public servants in NT) by local brewery One Mile were huge hits and the perfect cooling touch to the warm afternoons.

The Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival is an exceptional community event that truly has something for everyone and is well worth booking a trip to Darwin for (if escaping the southern chill isn’t quite enough for you)

We can’t wait to visit again and be a part of it next year!
